Family, the ones who love you (supposedly)

I have this aunt. She lives in Texas. I could probably stop there and at least two or three of you who know me would completely understand. But, for the other six or seven of you, I'll fill you in. The day after the health care bill was passed I called her to find out how badly she was taking it. See, she's VERY republican and religious to boot. She was not taking it well. In fact, she was in a bit of a tizzy. She thinks it is the very worst thing in the world, as now women will be able to get federally funded abortions. I don't think she has reliable information on the subject, else she wouldn't use that as her first argument against reform. When I reminded her that this bill means that now I can get insurance she said (and I quote) "I don't care about that". She went on to say that her husbands Medicare would be cut drastically as a result of this reform. And that she was tired of paying for other people's health care. Then she hung up on me.
Now remember, she's a very religious and LOVING person. Uh-huh. Suuuuuure. If she says so.
One of my other aunts is trying a different tack. She seems to be bent on driving Mama Bird into a crazed fit because the bill didn't go into effect (for me) RIGHT AWAY. She (the aunt) said she'd be mad if it didn't. She (also the aunt) voted for all the folks who were AGAINST HRC, and didn't want it passed in the first place.
Come July first I should be able to procure insurance. I cannot be denied. Legally. Because of my pre-existing condition I qualify for some help getting that insurance. I'm looking forward to feeling a bit more secure, and less stressed about the what-ifs surrounding my well being. I'm already less stressed about the whole thing.

I have learned never to bring up politics with radical right wing republicans. It will not be a debate as I have learned:

A) They don’t care what you say, you don’t know what you are talking about.

B) It is their job to convince you are wrong, at will use every random rumor or news spin to prove it. (Facts and source are not part of their language.)

You are better off trying to debate a wall rather than a radical right wing republican, because at least it will not dominate the conversation and after the debate it will not harass you about every little thing Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh says.

My advice is if you ever feel like talking politics with your aunt again just talk to a wall instead you will be less frustrated and the results will be the same.

Somethings need to be said twice! This was likely one of them. I KNEW she was against it, I just didn't think she was THAT against it. As a general rule I do not talk politics with her (and this irks her to no end), but I thought for some reason (she's my flesh and blood for cryin' out loud) that she might be sympathetic to my plight. Alas, this is not the case. And as my father, her brother, often tell me- she's an asshole.

Don't worry Avis, she'll make up with you once she feels her time is growing short, afterall, Ephesians 4:26-27 says; "Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil."
Haha, true story, I had a Great-Aunt who got in a fight with her dad, she didn't talk to him for years until he was on his death-bed. She reconciled with him, because, "she didn't want their burden to hinder her chances of getting into heaven."
My point is this: people like that have a very skewed view of both scripture and life. Don't waste your time with them, because, to be honest, their views are merely an annoyance and their opinions of you don't matter because they don't really know anything.
I hope things get better.

Medicare is super fantastic! Chalk it up to right-wing paranoia. Just tell your aunt in Montreal there's abortions for all and it's OK to be gay. Then hang up on her.

I have come across certain people that make me consider retroactive birth control.
